Root canal therapy provides a way to save a tooth that’s been badly damaged by breakage or decay. If you’ve needed a root canal, you might have noticed that before treatment was done, the tooth was painful when you bit down on it. You might have had a toothache or the tooth might have been sensitive to touch.
These signs don’t always show up, however. You might not know you need root canal therapy until your dentist tells you. If you do ever get this news, don’t be alarmed. Some people have the impression that a root canal is difficult to get through, but generally speaking, it is only a little more complicated than receiving a large filling
Due to impact injury or decay, bacteria can invade the soft inner tissue of a tooth. When this happens, the resulting infection will kill the soft tissue containing the blood supply and nerve. Because this infection results in inflammation and swelling and because the inside of a tooth is a very tiny space, the ensuing pressure may give you a toothache. Regardless, the infected tissue must be cleaned out and replaced with sterile material so the tooth can be preserved.
First, the tooth is opened so the dentist can clean out dead tissue. When it has all been removed, the canal—the central channel of your tooth that held the blood supply and nerve—will be cleaned out and sterilized. The canal will then be filled with sterile material and the tooth closed up.
The best thing to do after that is to crown this tooth. Because the living, inner tissue has been taken out, the tooth will get more brittle. It needs a crown to protect it and extend its life
"I needed a lot of work done on my mouth, due to nobody's fault but my own. Both Dr. Patel's (Father and Daughter), the resident Hygienist, and Dr. Alley with their wonderful staff took me in, and slowly but surely I'm back on the road to recovery. High praise to Liz at the front desk, and all of the assistants that really are just wonderful human beings. What a refreshing dentist office to be treated at."
"I had been putting off seeing a dentist due to extensive work I knew was needed. Finally, Broadway Cosmetic Dentistry was recommended and I am so glad I followed up. Dr. Patel is a marvel. I experienced no pain, only some mild discomfort and this was after some very extensive work preparatory to getting dentures (5 extractions). Dr. Patel and his entire staff are friendly to the point that I actually look forward to going there."

"The front office staff are warm and friendly, very pleasant atmosphere.
I had several cavities and bonding work to do and Dr. Shim was amazing. She is very gentle, and attentive to your needs. I am a nervous patient but she put me at ease and I didn't feel any pain at all. I give them 5 stars!"
